The mother of all blog posts.

Greetings my friends. Oh, it's been so long since we've spoken. As if I am returning to port from a long voyage, I am bursting with things to say and show. Let me get to it then.

I am currently decompressing from my midterms that just concluded yesterday. This semester has been very intense, but overall in a very positive way in terms of artistic growth. To recap, I am taking digital design, this class focuses mostly on design for print(ads, posters, editorials, etc.) and the primary program we use is Adobe InDesign. Next up, I am in digital photography, this one is pretty self-explanatory, primary program is Adobe Photoshop. The next class is interactive design and web experience and this class focuses on creating web sites and other web based creations. We use Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator. Lastly, I am in Motion Graphics, it's pretty self explanatory as well. This class is all about Adobe Flash and Adobe After effects.

I have been doing really well with regards to classes. I am very happy about that. All I wish is to learn and grow and ultimately excel. I aim to have a portfolio that makes people go "oooooooooo". :) Now on to work...

First up, I will be showing my Digital Design work:

This assignment was to create ads for Haagen Dazs ice cream to be used in magazines. I am relatively pleased with it's outcome, I particularly like the vector rendering on the mint leaves.

This next assignment was to redesign the book jacket and create a point of purchase poster for the book Hindsights. I am pleased with this as well. I hope you like it as well.

Lastly, this assignment was to create an editorial for Hemispheres magazine, it's an in-flight magazine for United Airlines, enticing travelers to come and visit San Francisco. I am pretty happy with this one, although it does have a bit of a 70's tinge with the saturation of the pictures.

Okay, on to Digital Photography work:

My first assignment was to focus on three, to achieve this we were given the choice of using the number 3 or incorporating a composition using 3 objects. I do like this shot, it has good mood.

My next assignment was to shoot the interplay of light and shadows. Once again, I am quite pleased with my shots.

With this assignment we were instructed to bring inanimate objects to life. I do like this shot, I think it's actually pretty endearing. I hope you receive the same feelings.

This one was just for fun and also, in case you weren't able to see what I was trying to accomplish, this should clear it up.

This next assignment was to show the passage of time. We had the option of time lapse shots, or using photographic imagery to convey the passage of time. I wanted to convey the ending of perhaps a relationship or a life through the dried and decaying flowers. I also desaturated the colors to make it a bit more lifeless. I hope you like.

This assignment was landscapes. I love cemeteries and so that's what I shot. I think the mood of the location comes through in the shots. Enjoy the macabre. :)

And finally, this is my midterm photo. We were told to create a great still life. So I decided to have a photo shoot with Mr. Fluff. I really like my composition and I think my lighting is pretty solid. I hope you agree.

Now, on to the Interactive Design and Web Experience work:

With this assignment, we had to redesign the Netflix site. I think it came out pretty well overall. Thank you to my beanie for modeling for me. :)

Okay, this is my midterm assignment, we were told to come up with an idea for a website and fully flesh it out via a flowchart. Well, Haydn, our instructor, pulled a fast one on us and then decided to partner us up with a fellow classmate. The catch was that now we had to create our partner's site and they ours. My partner Nick came up with a site for a coffee shop and this is what I came up with. I am really pleased with how it turned out, especially the photography.

And now finally, my Motion Graphics work:
(go ahead and copy the link and open a new tab and paste it, you will want to shrink the size of the window down to frame the movie best)

These were my first assignments and look accordingly so, but I do like their style.

This assignment was to take the alphabet and go to town with all different ways to transition through the letters. I really enjoyed this one, hope you do as well.

Okay, with this assignment, we were instructed to create a quick ad using a logo. I chose Jolt and had some fun with it. I believe that the second one is the best of the bunch.

And finally, this is my midterm for motion. I took the first page of the 5 page story I was working on for the PCS Book 3 and animated it. I really like this one. I know some parts are a bit jenky but that's because I ran out of time. I really think I am going to animate the whole 5 pages and also add voices and music to it. This of course might have to wait until about 2015 when I have some time to accomplish it. I will keep all of you posted on it's progression.

Well, that sums up my work thus far in this Fall 2009 semester. If you made it this far, I commend you. Thanks for sticking through it all. I really hope you enjoyed the journey because I really enjoyed making it all despite the elevated levels of stress and increased intake of caffeine due to lack of sleep.

On an aside, I just wanted to take a moment and ask anyone that reads this to keep my mother in their thoughts and prayers. She was just recently diagnosed with various forms of cancer and is in for the fight of her life. All I ask is that she does not suffer too much. So I thank you for any positive vibes you can send her way. :)

That about wraps it up, kiddies. Until we speak again, Fare thee well and godspeed. :)

That's redux-ulous.

Greetings, friends. I'm just popping in and out. This is a redux of my previous piece. The first version wasn't sitting right with me and I figured I'd give it another go. I think I like this one more. I hope you do as well. Enjoy and take care.

The work of the Apostles.

Greetings, brethren. I am here today to add a new piece I finished in accordance with the agreement I have with my fellow apostles, Luke and Jon. Firstly, a thank you to Jon for providing me with the textures I used within. This piece is not a very subtle nod to Radiohead. I've for the longest time had various ideas floating in my head regarding Kid A and the concepts behind the album. I think I've conveyed the initial song on the album as I've envisioned it in my mind's eye. In the future, I hope to complete the whole series I have swimming in my brain. I hope you enjoy the result. Until next we meet, fare thee well and Godspeed.

Undeadlines that crave brains...

Greetings Sailors and seahags, it's been a bit since last posting. I've been enjoying my break from school and being a sponge, soaking up all that I see and read. Grades came out and I aced both my classes. Yay, me! :) I really look forward to next semester and all the stress and glory(hopefully) that awaits me. I have some cool classes coming up. More on that in another post.

So what brings me here today, is this fun little piece that I did for no particular reason. I and the fellow apostles, Luke and Jon, made a little pact with one another to produce some work within a certain amount of time to keep ourselves sharp for the coming semester. This is what I've come up with so far. I finally used that sketch I did way back in May. I inked it using illustrator and I am very pleased with the way it came out. Then the rest is just me playing with illustrator. I hope you all enjoy it and until next we speak, fare thee well and Godspeed.

Come to port.

Greetings fellow friends, as I've stated in my prior post, I am here to present my final project from Design Technology. The pic you see here is what I based my illustration from. From there, I rendered the entire piece in Illustrator. My total time spent on this was prolly about 25-30 hours. This was of course spread over about 5 weeks so as not to convey the feeling that I chained myself to the computer for 30 hours straight.

And here is the final stage I came to. There is a lot more that I am sure I could have done but, to tell the truth, I am sick of looking at this thing. Overall, I am pleased with this and with my semester overall. I've learned a lot and I've worked hard, which is all I ask of myself. I hope you all enjoy my final and have enjoyed my journey so far. I know I have.

I plan to find some freelance work while I am on my break from school, as well as, inking my PCS five-pager that's been staring at me since class started. I will post some of my work as it progresses further. I hope all is well in your world. Take care and godspeed.

All good things...

Greetings and salutations good folk. It's been a bit since I've posted. Mmm, yes it has. Well, my friends I've been studiously plugging away at my final projects for both of my classes. I will briefly describe what they entail. Firstly, for my Concept, Design and Process class I was instructed to create a logo for a new company called Villa Perugia. This company is an Italian foods company that prides itself on being authentic and traditional. Here is the logo scheme I came up with:

After this we were then instructed to create a screenshot of the homepage of the website for Villa Perugia. This is what I came up with:

From there, we were then told to create the first print ad for Villa Perugia Products. And here is what I came up with:

For my Design Technology class, my final project has been to recreate, using Illustrator, a watch. I am not finished with it and I have been reluctant to post what I've accomplished so far. I will be posting the finished product in the coming week, along with a couple earlier versions of the watch to compare.

Other than that, I have been well and I hope you are as well. Farewell and Godspeed.

Getinet done. :)

Hello, folks. Just here to throw up my revised assignment for Design Tech and Concept, Design and Process. My instructor from Design Tech handed me my behind when he critiqued the first one. The photo was way too amateur and I should have known better. So here is my redo. Photography is made possible by Merkuria and his lovely, sexy Canon 50D. Thanks, brother. I hope you all enjoy and my instructor doesn't destroy me tomorrow.

For the other assignment, they chocolate bar designs went over well. All I needed to do was brighten up the colors of the darker ones. So I am happy with them as well. Hope you are as well.
